Windsor's listed, conservation and modern roofs
Windsor's roofscape is shaped by the Castle and the Royal Park. The conservation areas around Castle Hill, Park Street, Sheet Street, Peascod Street and the streets behind High Street contain listed Georgian and Victorian buildings with natural slate, handmade clay plain tile and substantial lead detailing on parapets, bays and dormers. Sympathetic, lime-mortared repair work — and clear liaison with the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead conservation team — is essential for almost any job in central Windsor.
Beyond the conservation core, Dedworth, Clewer and parts of Old Windsor have substantial 1930s–1960s semi and detached stock with standard concrete tile or natural slate. The river frontage at Datchet and parts of Old Windsor adds some larger Edwardian villas with steep clay plain-tile pitches.
