Chimneys are exposed to the worst of the weather, and after years of freeze-thaw cycles the mortar joints can crumble, letting water straight into the stack and down into your loft.
Repointing involves raking out the old mortar and replacing it with a weatherproof mix matched to the existing brickwork. On older London terraces and period Berkshire properties we use lime-based mortars that allow the stack to breathe and reduce frost damage.
Lead flashing around the chimney breast is another common leak source. We replace damaged step and apron flashings with code 4 lead, properly dressed and sealed. If birds or downdraught are an issue, fitting a stainless steel cowl solves both problems in one go.
Most chimney repairs can be completed in a single day without scaffolding — we use our cherry picker for safe, cost-effective access across Berkshire and London.
